an emotional vigil in madison, wisconsin following the shooting of a 19-year-old man. ron allen has more on this. good morning to you. >> that young man's name was tony robinson and was shot and killed in that gray house. there is a memorial outside. the officer was white. he was responding to some kind of a disturbance inside the home. since then there have been three days of tension and protest with more expected today as another community wants to know why it had to end with a young man dead. >> what was his name? >> tony robinson! >> well-known in the community, a recent high school grad headed to technical school killed by officer matt kinney age 45 12 years on the force. they peacefully demanded to know why. >> he always wanted to make

someone happy. he was always there to talk. >> the beginning of the encounter was heard about a disturbance at a gas station. >> look for a male black, light skinned and tan jacket outside yelling. 19 years of age and name is tony robinson. >> more calls saying robinson assaulted someone. >> apparently tony hit one of his friends. no weapons seen. >> robinson ran into a home across the street and officer kinney followed and heard a disturbance and forced his way in. then police say he was attacked by the suspect and opened fire. >> shots fired. shots fired. 27-47, shots fired. >> he expressed condolences to the robinson family in person. they are trained to use the minimum force necessary. >> the fact that deadly force was used must mean there other

factor present such that it would rise to that threshold. >> i never thought this could be done here. we are making a statement today that it will not happen here again. >> the memorial is continuing to grow with each passing day. that is expected for today along with more protests. here the investigation is in the hands of the wisconsin department of justice, not the local police. the hope is that the police in the community can get through this without violence or unrest. the family of the young man killed. they ask that protests remain peaceful. >> ron, thank you very much. >> now to a big story in politics. the e-mail controversy around hillary clinton. pressure is mounting to explain why she used a private account to do business as secretary of state. peter alexander is on this story. good morning. >> savannah good morning.

hillary clinton will be speaking today and tomorrow. they were carefully choreographed to focus on the role as a champion for women and girls. they are watching to see whether she addresses the e-mail controversy as leading democrats call on her to do more. with the controversy growing, hillary clinton has not said a word about her use of personal e-mail while secretary of state. no mention during a speech in miami this weekend. president ob said it's his policy to encourage transparency. >> i'm glad that hillary has instructed that those e-mails that had to do with official business need to be disclosed. >> a prominent democrat said she owes americans a full explanation. >> do you think it's hurting her? >> from this point on the silence is going to hurt her. >> the republicans are not

letting up. they are investigating the benghazi attack and demanding she turn over her e-mails including communications for this day. this served as clinton's twitter photo. still featured on her page but not her profile picture. >> if you think of them flying to libya, we have no e-mails from that day and that trip. >> this follows reports that foreign governments donated millions while hillary clinton served as secretary of state violating the ethics agreement. her husband defending the donations this weekend. >> i believe we have done a lot more good than harm and i believe this is a good thing. >> it's all fuel for "saturday night live." >> there will be no mistakes in my rise to the top if i decide to run. who knows. >> this e-mail controversy shows no signs of going away quickly.

it's particularly damaging because it reinforces the narrative of the clintons as being secretive. >> thank you very much. >> a fy at the university of oklahoma is being closed and members suspended over a troubling video online. willie geist is here with the latest on that. >> the video allegedly shows members of the sigma alpha epsilon using racist language after seeing it the national president called an immediate board meeting and took swift action. the video posted to you tube on sunday shows multiple people chanting racial slurs against african-americans indicating that black students would never be admitted to the sigma alpha epsilon fraternity. they referenced lynching. the fraternity seemed to validate the contents of the

video, issuing a statement saying we apologize for the unacceptable and racist behavior of the individuals in the video and we are disgusted that any member would act in such a way. brad cohen tweeted that the ou chapter has immediately been placed on a cease and desist. we have now closed the chapter and will expel all those involved. david boren also released a statement via twitter saying if ou students are involved this behavior will not be tolerated and will be addressed very quickly. this behavior is reprehensible and contrary to all our values. ou students held a prayer vigil sunday night. >> it is a heinous act and shouldn't be tolerated on the campus. >> the fact that we have videos like this being made is disgusting. >> i think the video should not represent us in any way whatsoever. this doesn't mean we are bad

people at the university of oklahoma. we do not deserve this. >> the candlelight vigil, more protests are planned today. one student tweeting out see you at 7:30 a.m. time to come and be heard. >> thank you very much. >> one year after the disappearance of 370, a new report is offering clues that indicate that the battery on one of the under water pingers may not have been working so finding the plane in the crucial first weeks may have been nearly impossible. tom, good morning to you. >> 239 people were on board that plane. they believe everyone in board was likely incapacitated and the plane ran out of fuel and crashed in the southern indian ocean. were the pingers working when the search team was listening for them. >> malaysian 370.

>> good night, malaysian 370. >> the last words from the plane, a full year since it disappeared from kuala lumpur to beijing. they scoured the ocean looking for the plane and faced a bigger challenge than first thought. the battery that was supposed to power one of two under water pingers to help them roan in on the black boxes expired in december of 2012 more than a year before they disappeared. it was never replaced and the question no one can answer, was the badry dead when they scoured the area and listening for a transmission. >> they reflect that they were overdue. i don't think we have a way to determine if they were working or not. >> the search commanders are still going on theidate that suggest the plane flew into the

southern ocean before running out of fuel and crashing. a year later not a single piece of debris washed ashore or has been picked up at sea. search teams covered 40% of the zone and hope to finish boy the end of may. >> we can't go on forever, but as long as there reasonable lead the search will go on. >> a year of anguish and disbelief. >> so many errors and misstatement has been made whether they are intentional or unintentional. it makes it difficult to trust. >> they said the investigation found no evidence the pilot or copilot displayed any signs of distress before they left. no signs of socialized relation drug or alcohol abuse or changes before the flight. a year later we have nothing more to go on than this time last year. >> it's a fine point. in washington thank you.

thousands stood shoulder to shoulder on an alabama bridge sunday to commemorate the 1965 bloody sunday marriage a turning point in the civil rights movement. they gathered on the edmund pettis grij.bridge. there were team people for a memorial march. >> johnson was with two other men when he was shot in florida. his car was stopped and another car opened fire. the driver was killed. johnson is in stable condition and police are still searching for suspects. a historic first attempt to try to fly around the world without a drop of fuel. the solar-powered aircraft took off with two pilots on board. if all goes as planned, they will take turns flying the solar impulse two in a trip that will end mid-june.

traffic reporter jillian mele. >> right here on 76 that's the westbound side crawling along at city avenue. the blue route is slow moving northbound near route 1. and 95 southbound into center city, the drive time is 40 minutes from woodhaven road to the vine street expressway. new from overnight, a four-alarm fire destroyed the historic sergeantsville inn. that restaurant is an hour north of philadelphia. the fire broke out at 2:00 this morning and took crews several hours to bring it under control. and one firefighter did have minor injuries. the sergeantsville inn is 300 years old and hosted george washington and other dignitaries over the years. investigators still don't know what caused the fire. the mayor of sergeantsville spoke to us and said it is likely part of the community has been burned out there. i'm chris cato and we'll have another update in 25 minutes. find us on the nbc 10 app.

hours, that area has shrunk to practically nothing and so the temperatures are also rising so any threat of freezing rain is gone. today we're going to be seeing clearing skies and look at the temperature, into the low 50s. this video into nbc 10 shows a wrong-way crash in bucks county that happened overnight on route 1. a viewer in the opposite lane shot that video. the wayward driver slammed into three other cars. several people were hurt including the driver of the wrong-way car. we don't yet know the extent of those injuries and we also don't know if police have filed charged. jury deliberations are expected to resume in the murder trial of the so-called black madam. she is charged with third-degree murder in the death of a british woman. that woman died after windslowe

this is a partial collapse of an apartment building and you see it right there. here's what we know. this is on crittendon. the building was oumdccupied, people have been evacuated. fire department crews are on scene. we'll bring you the latest information as soon as it becomes available. a four-alarm fire destroyed a historic restaurant. the fire broke out overnight at the sergeantsville in in sergeantsville about an hour north of philadelphia. firefighters found smoke coming from the inn around 2:00 this morning but flames eventually tore through the roof. it took several hours to get things under control. one firefighter was treated for a minor injury. no one else was hurt. the cause is under investigation. i'm tracy davidson. we'll have another local update in 25 minutes. you can always get the latest news and weather and updates on any breaking news on the nbc 10 app. it's a free download from the

climb. 41 degrees in allentown. and we're going to be getting into the 50s as we go through the afternoon. new video -- this is new video into nbc 10 showing a wrong-way crash in bucks county that happened overnight on route 1. a viewer in the opposite lane took this video. the wayward driver slammed into three other cars. several people were hurt including the driver of the wrong-way car. we don't know the extent of that person's injuries. we also do not know if police have filed charges. jury deliberations will continue in the murder trial of the so-called black madam. padge windslowe is charged with third-degree murder. a british woman died after windslowe gave her a silicone injection for a body enhancement procedure. her attorney says she is not a murderer. a charity will hold a prayer vigil in honor of fallen police
